Legal advice in the state of MI?

Our house is listed as a duplex, we occupy the first floor and rent rooms to grad students in the second floor (they have their own kitchen and bath upstairs). We used to be able to provide our roomers free cable TV from our own connection. But yesterday comcast guy came in and disconnect my tenants cable, he said they need to buy their own, we can't share ours with them because our house is listed as a duplex even though we don't use it as a duplex. If a house has 7 roomers does every roomer need to have their own cable line? That's crazy. OR if roomers can share cable lines why can't land lord share his with his tenants? Even students need to watch TV sometimes but that does not mean they have to have their own lines when they only rent rooms.

Anyone who is familiar with the law in Michigan regarding this cable thing please please help me.

  1. You dont need Michigan law you need the cable company's policies.  Their policy is to make a profit and since it is similiar to a separate residence you really cant blame them.  Pay to have every room wired for cable TV and modem, your tenants will be very happy and you can write off the expense.  You can hire someone other than Comcast to do the wiring.
