a child aged 8 is definatly not legally aloud to drink alcohol in the UK!! ....18 is the legal age ...though there is talks of raising it due to excessive uderage binge drinking!

By law a 5+ year old can have an alcoholic drink within their own home if their parent allows them too or if it is given to them for a medical reason (would love to know which medical condition gets you prescribed beer?!).

At 16 you can have a drink with a meal in a licenced premises but someone over the age of 18 must be eating with you and must order it for you.

To buy alcohol yourself you must be 18+ regardless of where you buy it from pub/shop/restaurant and (of course) can be asked to provide ID to prove you are 18+ and refused service if you are unable to prove this.
