Question:

Legal age to work in New Zealand? Is it 16 or 15?

Ok so I'm 15, and I live in Belgium. I moved here 4 years ago, and I can only go back to NZ this summer if my grandparents manage to jack me up a job to do while I'm there for 5 weeks or so. This is to pay back the sickening price of getting there and back.

Is it legal for me to do some crappy job like washing dishes etc.. or do I have to be 16?

Thanks a lot.

  1. You can work at Maccas or KFC?

  2. Kia Ora!

Im pretty sure you can work earlier. I started working at 14, though that was because I was definatly ready for a job! You'll be able to get a job pretty easily, and are definaltly able to work. I found my job on www.seek.co.nz. All you have to do is find a job that's available that you like the look of. Then you can email your cv. Otherwise, get your grandparents to ask around at the local cafes etc. They will be pretty willing to give you a job washing dishes or waiting tables. I hope you enjoy NZ!

  3. You  may get a job at any age.

However, full time employment is limited to those over 16, as you are not allowed to leave school until you are 16.

  4. New Zealander's can legally work from 15 .Many students have part time jobs. However there is a fair bit of competition over holidays as the uni and older school students are all wanting jobs.  They may or may not have success since employers would want to meet you before employing you  I would expect.Unless your grandparents know people who would give you are job in which case assuming you still have a NZ passport should be fine. To be sure check at www.dol.govt.nz/about/legislation.asp

    That should help.

    Good luck.
