Legal problem in Japan?

A friend of a good friend of mine is detained in Japan for a "Judgmental Error" on his part...

What are some of the rules one can break in Japan that will keep them detained and away from the states for quite a while?

Any examples you can give me? She is so heartbroken right now :(

  1. The police in Japan can hold a suspect of a crime for 10 days, renewable once, before charging them with a crime. If it is an immigration issue, they can possibly hold them longer. And no, the US Embassy can get him out.
