Question:

Legal texas driving age

On the Texas department of safety website, it says that Texas has a graduated driving program where you get a permit at age 16, a provisional license after 6 months, and then a full license at age 18. This program has been in effect since 2002, but many of my friend's kids have been getting their permits at age 15, and their license at age 16. My daughter's approaching the driving age, so we're kind of confused. Does anyone know what the laws are?

    16 for a license

  2. In texas you can get a permit at 15 and you can apply for you license at 16.  I have family friends that just got their license at 16 in the past few years.  I don't know why there are putting 18 on their website.  Just call your local D.P.S. for more information on how to apply.  You usually just have to pay I think 30 bucks or so,  take the written test on their computers at the DPS, and then take the driving tests at certain times.  When you take the driving test you have to bring you own car and show proof of insurance.  For applying for a permit when you are 15 I am not sure on the process.  Just call the DPS
