I have a 03 honda accord ex coupe and i was wondering if it is legal to have only one liscences plate showing (which is the back) instead of the front. I have 2 liscense plate and i want to take off the front one so my front grill is showing. By the way, I live in Los angeles California.

  1. Legally? Yes but I've never had a problem. I've never been pulled over for it and nor has any of my friends. You must know that it could be an excuse for a cop to pull you over so if you plan on doing/carrying something illegal, I would keep it on. Good luck!

  2. If the DMV of CA issued you two license plates, you must have both installed. If you don't, you will meet a lucky police officer who will give you a ticket. The only way you can have only 1 installed is if the original destination sales of the car was shipped to a state that only issued you 1 license plate but you have to be able to prove that. In this case, you live somewhere like FL and moved to CA and have only one mounting bracket in the back for the license plate. But in CA they will make you install the 2nd plate even if you can't mount it. I wouldn't do it unless you want a ticket.

  3. NO

you know what, go ahead and try it because it's just that kind of stupid thinking that HONDA owners should get tickets for.

  4. it's the law in california to have both front and rear license plates on your vehicle. the main reason is because of the red light violation cameras. if you don't have a plate on you front bumper, the camera won't able to prove that you committed the crime.

i've been in trouble before for it. first i didn't have one in the front of my integra, got pulled over and cited with a fix it ticket. had to miss work and go to court to show proof that i went to the dmv and got one. after that, i came home and i decided that i didn't want to drill holes on my bumper so i stuck it on the dashboard against the windshield thinking it would be ok since it was visible. got pulled over again in a different part of town and this time got a ticket. forgot how much the fine was but it was enough to make me drill the bumper and put the plate on it.
