The Pakistan Squash Federation is trying its level best to revive the sport of squash in the country. However, they lack the support of Pakistani legend Jahangir Khan.
Notably known as the most successful squash player in the history of the sport, Khan declined an offer made by the Pakistan Squash Federation stating that the reason he chooses not to join them is that the he will not work in a set up where people of little
relevance have important posts.
Another Former World champion of Pakistan, Jansher Khan has not been given a post so far. The former sportsman nevertheless, showed his support for the PSF.
Jahangir stated, "I was offered before Jansher but I declined. I cannot work under a set-up where officials with no background are at the helm of running squash affairs."
The former president of the World Squash Federation, Khan said that he tried to work with the PSF a number of times but failed to give his all.
In reference to the PSF being run by the Pakistan Air Force Khan said, "I have high regard for the Pakistan Air Force officials but they are not a suitable choice to run the game… The authority to run squash affairs should be given to the ones who have served
the game in the past. It is good to win medals but considering our achievements, it is not a big feat. The players should not be complacent after the gold."
Additionally, Jahangir was not in favour of the way the officials of the federation changed every two to three years and believed that it would be hard to start all over again. Despite the fact that Pakistan team very recently won the squash team event at the
Asian Games in Guangzhou, Khan does not feel that it is enough considering the fact that the sport that was initially dominated by Pakistani professionals is now all about Egyptian and British players.
