Legendary Hall of Famer: Bret “The Hit Man” Hart – Part 2

When it comes to the world of professional wrestling, few can boast about achievements equal to that of the legendary Bret “The Hit Man” Hart. It is always said that Bret Hart was the best there ever was, the best there is and the best there will be. “The Hit Man”, who trained in Stu Hart Dungeon, went on to become the face of professional wrestling in the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s. Bret “The Hit Man” Hart entered the world of professional wrestling with Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart as part of the tag team known as the Hart Foundation. Hart won his first Tag Team championship in 1987 by beating the British Bulldogs and his first Inter Continental Championship by defeating Mr. Perfect in 1991. The Canadian won his first WWE Championship after he defeated the legendary nature boy Ric Flair by applying the dreaded submission hold known as the “Sharps Shooter”.

Bret’s match against Bob Backlund will always go down in the list of controversial matches of professional wrestling. It was in 1994 when Bret “The Hit Man” Hart fought Bob Backlund in a wild submission match. Bob Backlund applied many submission holds but Bret “The Hit Man” Hart never submitted during the entire match. However, it was Bret’s brother Owen Hart who threw in a white towel and signaled the surrendering of the match. Though Bob Backlund won the match and the WWE Championship that day but he lost it three days later to the 7-foot tall Diesel.

Bret “The Hit Man” Hart suffered a major loss when he fought against the Heart Break Kid (HBK) Shawn Michaels in a 60 minutes Iron Man Match. Bret “The Hit Man” Hart left the ring in utter humiliation. Another fellow Hall of Famer “Stone Cold Steve Austin” appeared on the ring and called in Bret Hart for the match. He accepted the challenge and fought against Stone Cold Steve Austin in an epic match that will be remembered for ages.

Wrestle Mania XIII in Chicago will also be remembered for the match between Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin in a submission match. It was a no holds barred match and the competitors employed all the weapons to decimate and beat the h**l out of each other. Both wrestlers were bleeding but their will to win the match was keeping them alive. It was an epic encounter and no wrestler was willing to back down and say the magic words “I Quit” which could have ended the ultimate suffering. The ring floor was red due to the excessive blood loss by the two wrestlers.

Then came the moment when Bret “The Hit Man” Hart trapped Stone Cold in his sharpshooter. Though Stone Cold Steve Austin never said the words, “I Quit” but the special referee Ken Shamrock awarded the match to Bret Hart as Stone Cold Steve Austin was unconscious to say anything. Bret continued to trap Stone Cold Steve Austin in the sharpshooter even after the end of the match. His hostile acts turned the fans against him and the audience saw a hostile side of Bret that was never seen before.

This was the start of one of the most heated rivalries of professional wrestling. Bret “The Hit Man” Hart recruited his brother Owen Hart, his former Tag Team partner Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, and his brother-in-law the British Bulldog to create a formidable alliance against Austin. Stone Cold Steve Austin replied by helping Sycho Sid in winning the WWE championship against the Bret “The Hit Man” Hart.
