Legendary Jaromir Jagr considering making NHL comeback through Penguins or Red Wings –NHL Update
One of the best known hockey players alive, Jaromir Jagr, has announced that he is ready to make a comeback in the National Hockey League (NHL) after nearly three years of parting ways with NHL to go and play in the Russian ice hockey league.
People who know hockey well are familiar with his name as he played with a number of teams for for nearly 18 years, including Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.
The 39-year-old was drafted in 1990 NHL Entry Draft by Pittsburgh Penguins as the fifth overall pick in the first round.
According to his agent, Jagr is looking for a one year contract only which most likely means that he would like to end his career in ice hockey on a high note.
"Quite a few teams are in the picture, but I've been talking to Detroit and Pittsburgh the last couple of days", Petr Svoboda, Jagr's agent, said on Tuesday in an interview with The Associated Press. "He is looking for a one-year deal and I think he will
have one in the next week or so".
The player from Kladno, Czech Republic, has played 1,273 NHL regular season games and boasts an astonishing 1,599 record which includes 646 goals and 953 assists.
He won the Stanley Cup twice with Penguins, along with five Art Ross Trophies and is one of only 25 players who have won a Stanley Cup and gold medals in the Olympics and international competitions.
There is a problem in him making a comeback. Many players and teams are of the view that he does not have the playing capacity like he once did and would only be making an appearance on the ice rather than some actual performance.
They should ask people who still play with him.
"He's still got it, for sure", U.S. Team captain, Mark Stuart, said. "He's hard to play against. One of the hardest guys ever to take the puck off".
Either Detroit or Pittsburgh would be the lucky ones to receive a future Hall of Famer and it is expected that Penguins will most likely be his choice due to the team being his original draft team.
