Legendary QB Brett Favre talks about New York Jets QB's Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez - NFL News
Former National Football League (NFL) quarterback and future Hall of Famer, Brett Favre, knows a thing or two about competition for starting spots and shared his thoughts on the drama taking place at one of his former teams the New York Jets.
Speaking about the potential for competition between Jets starter, Mark Sanchez and his backup, Tim Tebow, Favre said that both players will handle things well and can coexist.
Talking to NFL Network analyst, Deion Sanders, Favre said:
"Well, I think Tebow will obviously handle it with class, regardless of what they try to put on him."
Adding further he said:
"I don't really know Mark that well, but I think he's handled himself well considering the circumstances.”
Both quarterbacks from what the media has seen during the team’s minicamp and organised team activities seem to be getting along well and regularly praise each other during their talks with the press.
The Jets brought in Tebow this offseason from the Denver Broncos as backup and have repeatedly maintained that Sanchez will start in the 2012 regular season.
However, speculation continues to exist still even after a number of denials by the Jets that there is competition for the quarterback position.
Many analysts believe that the same thing will happen to Sanchez which happened to the last quarterback who competed with Tebow.
The Broncos before the 2011 season had maintained that Kyle Orton will be there starter but after some poor performances by Orton in the first four games of the season, Tebow replaced him as starter and Orton was put on a waiver and later signed by the Kansas
City Chiefs.
It is now up to Sanchez to ensure that he delivers big performances for the Jets in the next season since it would not take long for the legion of Tebow’s fans to start calling for him if Sanchez fails to deliver.
Favre also praised Jets head coach, Rex Ryan and general manager, Mike Tannenbaum.
He said:
"Mike Tannenbaum is a great GM. He wants to win. And he may kind of scramble things up a little bit. You know, it's a tough place, but I think the right coach is there."
Favre has given his prediction and now it remains to be seen if it comes true during the Jets training camp.
