Legendary Steve Davis believes next season will be tough for him – Snooker News
Former six-time World Snooker Champion from England, the living legend Steve Davis is all set to participate in the qualifying session of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The veteran is currently placed in the
fourth round of the qualifiers where potters like Ben Woollaston and Dominic Dale are in the line-up.
However, the former champ is looking to make his appearance in the Championship and give another try to make it into the final game of the tournament. In the 2010 World Snooker Championship, the Nugget reached the quarter-final stage of the tournament where
he lost to the eventual Champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson by the score line of 5-13.
Nevertheless, the World Number 39 is not worried about the Championship as he has lived his time superbly. Meanwhile, he is a bit worried about the next season because he believes the upcoming snooker season will be tough for him because he will be playing
all the qualifiers and all events of the 2012-13 Players Tour Championship (PTC).
Speaking to the local media, Davis said, “Next season is going to be very tough, playing in all the qualifiers and PTC events. There’s a lot of travelling involved and sometimes we play three or four matches in a day. So fitness definitely helps.”
The Ginger Magician added, “The training has been gruelling. Going the distance at the World Championship leaves you mentally tired and there were times when I lost half a stone over the 17 days. But that’s nothing to compare to the physical tiredness I
have felt after running - it’s genuine exhaustion.”
After the Championship, the 54-year-old will be joining former World Snooker Champions Shaun Murphy, Peter Ebdon and Michael Holt in the Sheffield Half Marathon which will commence on May 27. After that he will be playing with the former six-time World Snooker
Championship runner up Jimmy White in the 2012 Snooker Legends Cup along with Ronnie O’Sullivan and Michaela Tabb. Davis will be looking to put in a good performance in the qualifying session.
