Legendary quarterback Brett Favre shares his thoughts on New Orleans Saints bounty scandal - NFL News
Green Bay Packers legend and considered by most people as one of the greatest quarterback’s to ever grace the National Football League (NFL) Brett Favre has given his opinion on the latest scandal involving the New Orleans Saints.
Favre who is currently in retirement faced the Saints in the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship as part of the Minnesota Vikings during New Orleans 2009 Super Bowl title winning season.
The legendary quarterback was the target of some crushing hits throughout the game as Saints defensemen were overly physical in their attempts to stop the quarterback.
Now with the NFL revealing that New Orleans defensive roster was involved in a secret bounty which provided cash bonuses to players to injure opponents it seems that the hits on Favre had some other motives.
The investigation revealed that the Saints operated a bounty pool of up to $ 50,000 with players being paid varying amounts depending on the level of injury they inflict on a targeted opponent.
It was also revealed that the Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma had offered a $ 10,000 amount to any player who knocked out Favre.
During the game Favre faced some of the ugliest hits in the game with the veteran quarterback knocked around with ferocious intensity.
However, the quarterback himself in a statement to Sports Illustrated said that it is all part of the game and it does not matter what the Saints defensive line did to him.
“I'm not pissed. It's football," he told Sports Illustrated's Peter King. "I don't think anything less of those guys. Said or unsaid, guys do it anyway. If they can drill you and get you out, they will.''
Even if Favre is not too concerned about what happened the NFL is.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it his stated mission to ensure player safety and with this revelation the Saints will face a string of penalties for operating an illegal bounty under the guidance of ex-defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
The Saints in the previous season were panned by many of their opponents for being dirty and looking to intentionally injure opponents.
New Orleans name as a rebounding team from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina has been sullied and it will take a long time for them to rebuild their tarnished reputation.
