Legends of Golf: Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer lead in the first round
Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer shot 12-under 60 in the first round of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf, on Friday, April 20, 2012.
Both players started the Champions Tour tournament in an impressive style and posted a massive score. They played a bogey-free round and shot 12 tremendous birdies in the three-day tournament.
The tournament is gaining much attention for having senior golfers in the field and after such impressive scores on the leaderboard.
Bryant and Purtzer are chasing and competing well for the $2.7 million purse, at the Savannah Harbor Golf Resort in Savannah, Georgia.
Against the toughest field, Bryant and Purtzer started the event easily and made birdies on the first two holes each. Then, they made a par score on the third hole and added two more birdies on the 4th and the 5th holes.
They ended the front nine holes by scoring another birdie and recorded -5 scores on the leaderboard. Their appealing performance continued later on as well. They shot seven massive birdies on the back nine.
Except the 13th and the 18th holes, Bryant and Purtzer scored birdies on every hole. They cheered all the spectators and displayed an amazing performance till the end of the day.
According to Purtzer, the seventh hole was the longest and the hardest. "I fanned one in the right woods and Brad didn't see," Purtzer said.
"So both of us are in the hazard there and he decided to drop out and he played a great second shot and then a beautiful third shot and he made about, I don't know what, 10-footer?"
Bryant replied in return, "If you make a bogey out here, it zaps your momentum. But when you made that putt, that was like making an eagle on that hole, so that was a big turnaround for us".
The defending champions David Eger and Mark McNulty are currently tied for the 21st position. They scored 6-under 66 and finished six strokes behind the leaders.
Bryant and Purtzer did a great job in the first round in Georgia. If they continue their appealing strokes in the upcoming two rounds, they will win the coveted title and a whopping $460,000 prize.
