Legg Mason tennis Classic 2010: Andy Roddick defeats Grega Zemlja

The American professional tennis ace, Andy Roddick knocked down Grega Zemlja, a qualifier in his very first match of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic tournament on Tuesday.
It was a pretty descent start as far as Roddick is concerned, as he won the match in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
"I played the way I planned and got some points right from the start of the game and dominated till the end”, said Roddick. "Actually I just want to play flawless tennis and add more victories to my record”, he added.
The American tennis player played quite well as he did not lose a single point in his final four service games in his opening match against Zemlja. Moreover, Roddick also made use of his break chances and utilized all four of his break point opportunities.
"I was in total control of my game throughout the match, which was great”, Roddick said. "I didn't get myself into trouble at any stage of the game”.
Andy stands at 30-5 in the city of Washington, including a total of three trophies.
In another match, Mardy Fish hammered down Viktor Troicki in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3. The third seeded player, Fernando Verdasco successfully won his match versus Michael Berrer in a total of three sets in Washington. The score was 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6).
Mardy has succeeded in his last two championships in Atlanta as well as in Newport. The American has been performing well after the grass court Grand Slam championship. According to him, his recent good performances are a result of his fitness as well as hard training sessions after his knee surgery back in 2009.
Moreover, in his match against Viktor, Mardy also took full advantage of Viktor’s weaknesses. The Serbian double faulted on a total of six occasions in the entire match.
"He is a passionate man," Fish commented. “He is a kind of player who does not perform on consistent basis. He perform very well some times while, plays poorly at times as well. However, I managed to keep it steady."
Verdasco, who participated in the championship ranked tenth, trailed 2-5 in the set number two of the match, prior to grabbing five straight games to finish off the set.
"When I was even down during the match, the only thing I did was that I kept on hitting the balls in right directions and avoided mistakes”, Verdasco commented. "In my view, I was a little lucky as well, as he didn’t manage to hit match winning serves throughout the match”.
Moreover, in the round number two matches, Marin Cilic who is seeded number four for the tournament also knocked down Denis Istomin, 6-4, 6-2 where as Gilles Simon defeated Igor Kunitsyn with a final match score of 6-1, 6-2.
There were also a total of two upsets; Ryan Sweeting thrashed out Michael Llodra; a fourteenth seed player in a total of two sets. On the other hand, Xavier Malisse hammered down the twelfth seeded Julien Benneteau 7-5, 6-4 in their round number two clash in Washington.
As far as the American tennis contender Andy Roddick is concerned, this victory must have given him a lot of confidence to perform even better for the matches in the tune up tournament prior to the United States Open championship, which is going to be held in the city of New York.
"If anyone says, that their greatest aim at this point is to not prepare themselves for the upcoming US Open 2010, they're perhaps not being totally honest with themselves or with others," Roddick said. "Anyhow the best preparation for a major event is to enter the tournament by winning the previous matches."
