Leicester City unveil Sven-Göran Eriksson as new manager
Former England boss Sven-Göran Eriksson has been unveiled as the new manager of Championship side Leicester City.
The colouful Swede, 62, has signed a two-year contract, and returns to English football after previous spells with Manchester City and as a director of football at Notts County. His last job was as manager of the Ivory Coast at the World Cup in the summer.
Paulo Sousa was sacked as Foxes boss on Friday after just nine matches in charge, and Eriksson takes over a side in the Championship relegation zone, but one that did beat Scunthorpe United 3-1 yesterday in front of the watching Swede.
“I am very happy to be here,” said Eriksson today. “The club wants to be in the Premier League and I do as well. That is the clear target.
“What I saw yesterday was very good. I liked what I saw. They played very well, they fought with big hearts - well done.
“I think the ambition of the club is fantastic. If they did not have ambition then I would not be interested."
