Leicester Tigers defeat the Newcastle Falcons 13-24 during their Aviva Premiership encounter at Kingston Park, Newcastle played on Friday April 22, 2011.
Newcastle Falcons failed to win any point from the match have extended their relegation fears from the Premiership. Leicester Tigers with this win have extended their lead by 6 points at the top of the premiership table.
This is the Tigers 15th win in the premiership while Falcons conceded their 15th game for the season. Despite ending on the losing side, Falcons played a good game of Rugby and remained in the game throughout.
Leicester Tigers were the dominant force in the match and Falcons defence has put a great performance in to restrict the premiership leaders to scoring just 24 points. Leicester was in control of the ball possession and gained territory from the start but
the Falcons defence restricted them from scoring.
Newcastle Falcons put their first points on board during the 12th minute of the game as their Fly Half Jimmy Gopperth scored on penalty. Visitors replied few minutes later, as their Winger Alesana Tuilagi scored a try after penetrating through the Falcons
defences. Tigers Fly Half Jeremy Staunton scored the conversion to leave the hosts trailing by the 4 points.
In the following passage of the play, both teams tried hard to gain the territory as most of the game was played in the mid field. Tigers Fly Half Staunton scored his first penalty of the game during the 31st minute of the game, leaving Falcons trailing
by seven points. Hosts reduced the lead to just 4 points as Gopperth scored his second penalty of the game during the 38th minute. Both teams left the field at the half time with scorecard reading 10-6.
Tigers immediately after the break extended their lead by 11 points. Their Winger Matt Smith scored a try during the 46th minute of the game followed by Staunton’s conversion. Falcons reduced with their Centre Tane Tu’ipulotu followed by the Gopperth’s conversion
to reduce the lead to just four points.
Tigers Scrum Half James Grindal scored last try of the game during the 72nd minute followed by the Staunton conversion to take the scorecard reading 13-24 in favour of Tigers. Falcons made an effort to earn a losing bonus point but failed to do so.
Falcons have two matches left against the Bath Rugby and their hope for survival in the Aviva Premiership is dependent on their performance in their remaining two games.
