Leicestershire 2nd XI overcome Unicorns A by six wickets: Second Eleven Trophy

The visitors achieved a decent total of 269 for the loss of eight wickets at the end of their allotted 40 overs, but failed to defend it. The highest scorer for the team was Atiq Chishti, who collected 56 runs.
The game was reduced to 33 overs in the second innings, as rain caused a delay after the break. Leicestershire 2nd XI required 240 runs for victory and they achieved it relatively easy in the end losing just four batsmen.

Unicorns A’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Thornely-c1967, elected to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch was good for the batsmen, as it was hard and dry. Both teams scored plenty of runs, which made the game interesting for the fans.
The visitors’ start was an impressive one, as their skipper and Jaydon Levitt collected 45 runs for the first wicket partnership. However, Thornely was unable to convert his start into a significant score and was dismissed for 29 runs off 20 balls.

However, Chishti and Levitt played well, scoring 61 runs for the third wicket partnership. The latter missed-out on his fifty and was dismissed for 49 runs from 58 balls.
He was followed by Chishti, who played exceptionally well for his 56 runs from 53 deliveries with the help of eight boundaries.

Leicestershire 2nd XI were given a fabulous start by their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217, as the pair put together 93 runs for the first wicket. The latter was unable to carry onto the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the
pavilion after adding 34 runs to the total.
He was followed by Boyce, who managed 56 runs off 46 deliveries, smashing nine fours in his impressive outing.
A couple of quick wickets fell after that, but Eckersley and wicketkeeper batsman, Paul Dixey put together an unbeaten 126 runs for the fifth wicket partnership, guiding the hosts to victory. They scored 68 and 53 in their respective outings.
