Leicestershire overcame Northamptonshire by six wickets and 13 balls remaining in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Grace Road, Leicester in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
The visitors failed to make an impression in their innings and were restricted to 130 for the loss of nine wickets at the end of 20 overs. None of their batsmen managed to score in the thirties and the highest score came from opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bilal-Shafayat-c1162,
who scored 28 runs.
Leicestershire didn’t have too many problems during the chase and achieved the target in the 18th over easily. Will Jefferson top scored the innings and the match with 41 runs and earned the player-of-the-match award for his exceptional effort.
Conditions were good for cricket, as the sun was out and there was no chance of rain. The pitch had assistance for both the batsmen and the bowlers, which was expected to make the game interesting.

The latter failed to convert his start into a big innings though and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 22 runs

Shafayat was the next man to be dismissed after scoring 28 runs off 30 balls with the help of four boundaries.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Niall O’Brien and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Wakely-c988 put together 25 runs for the third wicket partnership, but the latter was unable to make a big impression. He was dismissed after collecting 14 runs off 12 balls, smashing one boundary.
Just four runs later, Rob Newton, was run-out after adding just one run to the total. This put the visitors on the back foot and they failed to cope with the pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals.
O’Brien batted well, but failed to capitalise on the start he got to his innings. He was dismissed after scoring 23 runs from 25 balls with the help of one four.

Leicestershire lost two quick wickets for just 10 runs on the board during their chase. However, the innings was put on track by McDonald and Jefferson, who put together 63 runs for the third wicket partnership. They scored 38 and 41 in their respective
outings, guiding the team to a solid victory.
South Africa’s, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610, was in impressive form, picking up one wicket for 12 runs, but his effort went in vain in the end.
