Leicestershire defeat Warwickshire in a close finish: Friends Life Twenty20 - First Innings Recap
Leicestershire overcame Warwickshire by five wickets and one ball remaining in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Edgbaston, Birmingham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 15, 2011.
The hosts batted really well, scoring 166 for the loss of eight wickets at the end of their allotted 20 overs. The team’s captain, Jim Troughton led from the front, collecting 46 runs.
Rain came down soon after the end of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 innings and the teams had to wait for the revised conditions.
Five overs were lost due to rain and the target for Leicestershire was revised to 133 from 15 overs as per the Duckworth/Lewis method. The team managed to achieve the target in the last over of the match after a very close finish.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 innings and the match with 49 runs. He missed-out on a half-century by just one run, but would have been pleased to win the game for his side.
Leicestershire’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-McDonald-c1042 had elected to field first after winning the toss. The conditions were overcast and the seamers were expected to get some assistance in the earlier half of the match.
Neil Carter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Chopra-c2745 opened the innings for the hosts. They gave a flying start to their side, collecting 33 runs in a very quick time. The latter failed to make a big impression though and was dismissed after collecting 24 runs off 16 balls with
the help of three fours and a six.
Carter was also smashing the ball hard and managed 20 runs from just 12 deliveries, clobbering four boundaries. He was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings though and was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings.
Troughton walked out in the middle to join Ireland’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801 and the pair laid a very solid foundation for the lower-order batsmen. They put together 71 runs for the third wicket partnership, guiding the team to 125/2 in 13 overs.
Warwickshire were in a very good position at that stage and appeared to take their total closer to 200 or maybe beyond. However, the last seven overs didn’t turn out to be ideal for the hosts, as they lost six wickets for 41 runs at less than six runs per
over.
Porterfield and Troughton scored 37 and 46 in their respective outings, but failed to bat until the end. There was no significant performance from the lower-order players, which restricted the team to 166/8 in the end.
Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 and South Africa’s Claude Henderson bowled well for Leicestershire, picking up three wickets each in the match.
