Leicestershire defeat Warwickshire in a close finish: Friends Life Twenty20 - Second Innings Recap
Leicestershire had to chase 133 runs for victory in 15 overs against Warwickshire in a game of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the Edgbaston, Birmingham in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 15, 2011.
The initial target was 167 from 20 overs, but it rained after the end of the first innings, which forced the umpires to shorten the match to 15 overs.
This didn’t bother the visitors at all, as they achieved the target in the end, losing just five wickets. They had to work extremely hard though, as the team won the match with just one ball remaining in the end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Taylor-c66127 top scored the match with 49 runs for Leicestershire. He would have liked to score a half-century, but winning the match was more important, which the visitors did in the end.
The pitch was still good for the batsmen, as there was not much wear and tear in it. The outfield became a little slower, as it was a little damp. However, it was concerning for the bowlers as well because they struggled to grip the ball once it got wet.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739 smashed the bowlers to all parts of the park. He collected 28 runs off just 16 balls before being dismissed. The stylish opener struck three fours and one six in his cameo innings.
Although the start was good for the visitors, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 got out in the same over after scoring one run each and all of a sudden, Leicestershire were 37 for the loss
of three wickets.
However, the visitors’ captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 and the pair guided the side out of trouble.
They put together 90 runs for the fourth wicket partnership and guided the team closer to a terrific victory. The game wasn’t finished though, as there was another twist in the tale.
Both McDonald and Taylor got out in a span of one run, bringing their team under immense pressure. They played well though, scoring 40 and 49 in their respective outings.
Leicestershire required three runs off the last two balls and Wayne White was on strike. The spectators were overjoyed to see a fabulous end to the match, but they would have hoped to see their local side win.
However, White ruined the party for Warwickshire, clobbering a mighty six off the second-last delivery of the innings. He finished with an unbeaten nine in the end.
New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JS-Patel-c1747 picked up two wickets for 15 runs in his three-over spell, but failed to win the match for Warwickshire.
