Leicestershire struggle against Northamptonshire’s bowlers: County Championship Division Two – 1st Day’s Recap

The hosts were bowled out for 168 runs in their first innings whereas Northamptonshire ended the day on 136 for two, trailing by another 32 runs with eight wickets in hand.
Leicestershire’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-James-Hoggard-c75187, completely misjudged the pitch, as he decided to bat first after winning the toss. There was some moisture beneath the surface of the wicket, which made life difficult for the batsmen and the visitors took full
advantage of that.

runs off 61 deliveries.

There was some resistance from the lower-order batsmen though, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-James-New-c93582 collected 80 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before the latter got out after collecting 36 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/White-c96514 was the next man to go after top scoring the innings with 54 runs from 84 balls, striking 10 boundaries. He played well, but wasn’t able to bat long with the tail-enders.
The entire Leicestershire team was sent back to the hut for 168 runs.

total.
