Leicestershire v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 - County Championship Division Two - Day 4 – Live Score and Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 372 & 306/5d v Essex 409 & 30/2 (12.2 ov) - Match drawn
The County Championship Division Two four-day match between Leicestershire and Essex ended in a draw on the final day, on Saturday, May 19, at Grace Road, Leicester.
The day began with hosts Leicestershire resuming their second innings from a total of 148 runs for the loss of three wickets with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jon-Lewis-c1726 Cobb on nine.
However, after the addition of only a run in the total, the batting side lost the wicket of Cobb who walked back to the pavilion without adding a run to his overnight tally.
This saw the arrival of wicketkeeper/batsman, EJH Eckersley, in the middle, who tagged along Sarwan to bolster a resounding partnership, leaving Essex in ruins.
The two batsmen proved just too good for the visitors as they smacked them all around the park, exhibiting complete domination.
With time, Essex grew impatient and desperate to break the partnership which seemed to be heading towards eternity.
Finally with 229 runs on the board, Sarwan, who had played an innings of 98 runs, met his doom on a delivery bowled by Pettini that was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321, preventing the batsman from hitting a century.
The hosts were still in no mood to surrender as WA White forged a commendable partnership with Eckersley to further humiliate Essex bowlers, who seemed like a puny outfit in front of the home team.
Eckersley jabbed an innings of 70 runs, while White bolstered an unbeaten knock of 50 runs to help the side pile a massive total of 306 runs for the loss of five wickets before declaring the innings.
Essex needing 270 runs to win the game, did not have time on their side and needed to launch a fiery batting onslaught in order to reach the target.
On the other hand, Leicestershire needed to bowl-out the opponents to win the game, a task which was easier said than done.
The bowlers made early inroads by grabbing their first wicket with only 10 runs on the board, however, later they could only grab one more wicket, as Essex amassed 30 runs at the end of the match.
