Leicestershire 356 & 265/8d v Hampshire 181 & 77/4 (36.0 ov) - Hampshire require another 364 runs with 6 wickets remaining
At stumps, on the third day of play between Leicestershire and Hampshire, in the ongoing County Championship Division Two tournament, Hampshire require 364 runs to win with six wickets in hand at Grace Road, Leicester.
The day began with the hosts resuming their second innings from an overnight tally of 68 for the loss of two wickets.
Wicketkeeper/batsman, EJH Eckersley and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RR-Sarwan-c2371 handsomely batted against the visitors, smacking the ball all over the place.
While Hampshire desperately tried to make an early breakthrough, the batting duo was just too good to be stopped, as the hosts raced to a total of 109 before Hampshire earned their first wicket of the day on dismissing Eckersley for 39.
With the lethal partnership broken, this was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789’s moment to climb back in the match and prevent the hosts from amassing a tough total.
However, the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jon-Lewis-c1726 Cobb added to the fielding side’s miseries, as he looked well set to play a big one.
Nonetheless, Hampshire were lucky on the other end, as SM Ervine shattered Sarwan’s stumps, causing the batsman to walk all the way back to the pavilion after hammering an innings of 46 runs. At the time of his departure, the hosts had amassed a tally of 112.
It was then Cobb’s and MAG Boyce’s turn to rattle the tourists, as the duo took the score to 166 after which the latter lost his wicket to Ervine on a knock of 16.
Cobb was then joined by SJ Thakor, but the duo could take the score to only 184 before Cobb also found his way off the field after smacking a knock of 42.
Later, Thakor and WA White belted 45 and 35 runs to help their side post a second innings tally of 265.
From Hampshire, Ervine was the top bowler with three wickets to his name in the second innings.
Pursuing a target of 441, the tourists then had an unstable start to their run chase, losing four wickets with 77 on the board by the end of the day.
