Yorkshire 151/9 (20/20 ov) v Leicestershire 147/9 (20/20) - Yorkshire won by 4 runs
In the ongoing Friends Life T20 tournament, Yorkshire have secured a first place in the North Group, after winning their match against Leicestershire by four runs, at Grace Road, Leicester.
With four wins from six games, the side now has nine points and is the best in the group, with Notts at second place.
In the game against Leicestershire, they were made to bat first after losing the toss and then suffered an unimpressive start on losing their first wicket with only ten runs on the board, as opener A Lyth, perished on a tally of one, after facing four deliveries. His wicket was taken by Leicestershire’s strike all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623.
Then with 34 runs on the scoreboard, the side lost their second wicket when number-three batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JE-Root-c66745, was trapped in front of stumps on a delivery by NL Buck. The batsman had to walk off the field after crafting an innings of 10 runs off seven deliveries.
With this meagre run rate, the batting side needed to improve their strike rate, and pose a serious threat of clobbering a massive total in order to put some sort of pressure on their opponents.
However, with the addition of only a run in the total tally, they lost the services of Jaques, who was caught by White, off the bowling of Buck, after hitting an innings of 20 runs off 15 deliveries.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Miller-c1300 and GS Ballance then forged a potent resistance against the raging bowling onslaught as they desperately sought a batting resurgence.
Playing in front of a hostile crowd, Yorkshire, needed to anchor an innings worth fighting for.
With a total of 74 on the tally, the side lost another wicket, and this time Ballance was the one who met his demise, as he walked back to the dressing room after scoring 17 runs off 23 deliveries.
Miller and RM Pyrah then literally brought their side back in the game as the two forged an intimidating partnership to decapitate the fielding side and raise their team from the ashes of total annihilation.
The two took the score to 119 runs, before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 departed after belting a knock of 37 runs off 35 deliveries.
Pyrah on the other hand, departed after smashing a 35-run knock, playing a serious part in helping his side amass a staggering total on the board.
Finally with 152 runs to win in 20 overs, Leicestershire gave an astounding batting performance as the top and middle-order performed to their best ability.
However, the lower-order faltered at the worst possible time, costing the team a close victory as they could bolster only 147 runs in reply to Yorkshire’s tally.
