With regular opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Boyce-c1924 missing, Thornely made full use of his opportunity to lift his side’s stuttering campaign against fellow bottom strugglers. However, both teams showcased their frailties on the first day.
Leicestershire were on course for a much dominant position but came unstuck in the final session, losing four wickets. Form being 137 for 1, they ended on a disappointing 199 for 6, with Thornely falling just 3 runs short of his century.

Josh Cobb lasted a total of 8 dot deliveries before his stumps were shattered by Allenby, who was arguably the host’s best bowler on the opening day. He finished with figures of 17-7-21-2, but the drama continued to unfold as Leicestershire lost two more
before the close of play.
