Question:

Leigh Matthews' brother, who played VFL. Can someone tell me a bit about him please?

The missus is doing a sports project - involving brothers;father/son players of the VFL & AFL. If someone can give a bit about him it would be appreciated. I'd rather get it from this source than google as someone may be able to supply a bit of background not normally listed on google. Thanks.

  1. I know a bit about him.

    I can't remember his Christian name though. He played at Hawthorn with brother Leigh before being transferred to Geelong. He could not hold down a regular spot with Hawthorn. He also did not last a long time with Geelong either.

    He was a similar sort of player to Leigh & they acquired the nick-names of Fred (Leigh) & Barney (brother) from the Flintstones cartoon as people reckoned they looked like this pair in build & looks.

    I'm not even from an Aust. Rules football state & know that much. It looks like there are only kids in this section who don't go back more than a couple of years. I'll look up, for my own interest now, to see if i can find "Barney's" first name. It has me wondering!
