After lots of speculation about a rift between Lethal & The Leviathon, Brown. Has Matthews thrown himself on his sword Does this mean Jonathon Brown will be staying? or is he set to become a Magpie anyway?

  1. if i only had a clue,i would give you an answer....

  2. So, he is going fishing.

He said he's had enough of the attitude

of the Victorian clubs towards teams

from other states, and how hard it is for

teams outside Victoria to win a flag

because of all the travelling they

    do every second week. Things

will change a lot when the other states

form a coalition and stage a coup. They

will sack that mob at the AFL commission

and put some men will nuts in their place.

  3. I wish I'd said what the poster above me said!

Leigh had just been guaranteed that his position at the club was guaranteed for next year - so he must have been frustrated over something. Matthews is not one for dummy-spitting so I found it quite a surprise to hear he had quit. I don't believe he is a quitter either - so I'd love to know the real reason of his decision. I wonder what he will do now. Is he too old to attract intrest from another club or will he go into media, I wonder??

  4. Voss is being groomed at west coast for the gold coast job, if not, he may even taken over from worsfold.

brisbane are on the verge of the finals and have some great talent there so im sure many coaches will be lining up to take over. i dont think brisbane will go for a young assistant coach and would rather a high profile coach to take over.

september action is paramount for all afl clubs, however, brisbane, west coast and port adelaide have had success in the past 5 years so those clubs leave the coaching decision to those who brought them success. You wont get coaches being sacked when they lose a lot of great players through retirement as well as assistant coaches etc etc...it is unfair to point fingers at coaches like matthews, worsfold or williams when they are rebuilding teams. most teams take at least 3 years to mold into a consistent winning formula. brisbane have been near enough, west coast have had a rought trot with off field problems as well as an exodus of players etc etc...and port exceeded all expectations by making last years grand final. this year they havent done as well, but like williams said, last year they won a number of close games whereas this year they didnt. had they done so, they'd be amongst the finalists. they demolished north melbourne at the mcg which showed any team is capable on their day.

neale daniher, connolly, blight to me are all experienced coaches to inherit a team on the rise. if i was on the board of brisbane id be offering blight a two year deal and a nice fat cheque to go with it. his time at geelong his great success at the crows gives brisbane a d**n good chance at winning another flag. i dont think anyone else could turns things around other than the messiah.

then again...if hawthorn were to win the premiership id be zoning in on clarkson cos i believe he is goin to be a great success story in years to come.

get off dean bailey's back...the guy was a part of port adelaides dominance in the afl and to inherit what he has...no one would have expected a change over night...maybe melbourne supporters should start to get behind their players and coaches rather than continually bag whoever is at the helm. they will rise again, but even then, history shows they always fail at the last hurdle regardless of the coach.

  5. Jonathan Brown will be staying a Lion as I heard that he resigned a 4 year deal on the weekend.  Also he has said that his decision to resign has nothing to do with Leigh Matthews decision to retire.

  6. What a surprise hey!

The latest news is that Jonathon Brown has confirmed that he is re-signing with the Lions. This was announced after Leigh Matthews resignation so make what you wish of that.

Leigh Matthews did work for seven previously so you are probably right on the money there too!

I have a question for you... did he jump or was he pushed?

  7. hmm...it is weird how brown did re-sign strait after matthews resigned. It will really bring up alot of speculations from the media.

Aha that would be good to see matthews comentate for 7 - be great to have a true icon of our game doing it.
