Leigh McMillan’s The Wave Muscat in commanding lead on Day 2 of 2012 Extreme Sailing Series
Second day of the 2012 Extreme Sailing Series Act 3 produced impressive sailing on the Istanbul waters and world’s top teams enjoyed a complete sailing schedule on their Extreme 40 boats. The weather conditions on the racing area were outstanding and quite
ideal for perfect sailing.
The participating teams took advantage of the winds and completed scheduled races on time. Oman’s The Wave Muscat skippered by Leigh McMillan sailed better than the first day proceedings and was able to have a commanding lead over the Extreme fleet.
McMillan and crew members including Ed Smyth, Pete Greenhalgh, Hashim Al Rashdi and Rachel Williamson tumbled down in the opening race but the final race victory was enough for them to keep the top podium place of the regatta.
The final race victory has placed him ahead of the former leaders of the score board, the Red Bull Sailing Team with just one-point difference. McMillan is quite happy with the team’s performance on the second day and he is hoping for the same finish on
the upcoming races.
Meanwhile, skipper of Red Bull Sailing Team, Roma Hagara was disappointed the way they finished the second day proceedings. However, there is still chance that they bounce back into the game and challenge the leader-board’s top position holders because they
are just one point behind The Wave Muscat.
Overall standings at the conclusion of Day 2:
1. The Wave, Muscat (OMA) Leigh McMillan, Ed Smyth, Pete Greenhalgh, Hashim Al Rashdi, Rachel Williamson = 74 points
