Leigh McMillan’s The Wave Muscat makes strong comeback on Day 2 of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8

The Wave Muscat grabbed top three podiums in first three races while a superb race victory in the final brought them four spots up.
The 11 boat Extreme 40 fleet saw several shifts in podium places at the conclusion of the second day. Weather conditions were lower than expected as the forecast demanded a change in the tactics and those teams who tackled the change were able to move them
up in the standings overall.
Following are the overall standings of the event at the end of Day 2 at Almeria:
1. Oman Air (OMA), Ben Ainslie, Kinley Fowler, David Carr, Nasser Al Mashari = 72 points
2. Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL), Adam Beashel, Ray Davies, Jeremy Lomas, Derek Seward = 69 points
3. Groupe Edmond de Rothschild (FRA), Pierre Pennec, Christophe Espagnon, Thierry Fouchier, Hervé Cunningham = 64 points
4. The Wave, Muscat (OMA), Leigh McMillan, Kyle Langford, Nick Hutton, Khamis Al Anbouri = 60 points
5. Team GAC Pindar (GBR), Ian Williams, Mischa Heemrskerk, Andrew Walsh, Brad Webb = 55 points
6. Luna Rossa (ITA), Max Sirena, Paul Campbell-James, Alister Richardson, Manuel Modena = 54 points

The Wave Muscat bowman, Khamis Al Anbouri, is happy to perform well in the competition. The Omani bowman said, “We finally got out of our rut today. We are a team that like sailing in the breeze, but as sailors you have to master all conditions and that
is something we have worked hard on since Nice, and hopefully that started to show today in these light conditions. Things were starting to improve today but we can’t get carried away and still have to focus on the smaller details.”
The Wave Muscat found their pace and rhythm on Day 2 and sailed accordingly with wind conditions, which resulted in improvement for them.
