Leimer, Gutierrez to drive for Sauber at the Young Drivers Test in Abu Dhabi – Formula 1 news
Swiss driver Fabio Leimer and Esteban Gutierrez will be driving in a Sauber car at the Young Drivers Test which is scheduled for November 15-17, 2011 at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi.
The 22-year-old GP2 driver is extremely excited at being given this great opportunity which according to him is “a special honour.” He hopes to live up to the expectations of the Hinwil-based squad and do his best during the YDT which has been planned to
run over three days.
Gutierrez, who is the current GP3 champion is also a test and reserve driver for Sauber and has been with the team since 2010.
It has been decided that Leimer will be driving the Sauber C30 on any one of three days, and Gutierrez will utilise the other two days to test his abilities.
The Swiss said, “When I found out that I will definitely take part in the Formula One test I realised for the first time what this actually means.”
Leimer extended his thanks to everyone who has played a role in his career development and has contributed towards this recent boost of form.
He admitted that driving for a Formula 1 car is every racing driver’s dream, and he too had been dreaming of this opportunity for a long time and finds it hard to believe that his dream has finally come true.
Driving for a Swiss squad hold great emotional significance for the driver, who feels that he is very lucky to have been given this opportunity.
He is optimistic that participating in the YDT is going to help him hone his driving skills further and will possibly open doors to better and interesting opportunities for him in the future.
Commenting on Leimer’s addition to the Young Drivers Test, Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn said, “We are pleased we can offer Fabio this opportunity. The test opportunities for young drivers are extremely limited nowadays, and it is always exciting to see
how they deal with all the complexity of a Formula One test.”
Both the drivers are all set and ready to perform at the Yas Marina Circuit. Let’s see how they fare in it.
