Leinster beats Glasgow to claim a bonus point victory – Rugby Union News
Leinster overpowered Glasgow in their second match of the ongoing Heineken Cup 2011-12 by a good margin of 38-13. The ncounter took place on November 20, at Dublin.
Leinster scored five tries in the match which helped them earn a bonus point victory in the tournament. The superb triumph over Glasgow has sealed a top spot for Leinster despite a defeat in their opening match of the event. Jonathan Sexton was the major
scorer for the winning side with 11 individual points. He kicked four conversions and one penalty goal for Leinster.
During the match, Glasgow looked sharp in the start as they opened their account just in the third minute. Duncan Weir was the man who gave his side a psychological boost with the help of a penalty goal but they could not maintain the lead for a long. Leinster’s
full-back, Rob Kearney, snatched back the lead from Glasgow in the third minute. He danced through the rusty defence of Glasgow and registered the first try of the match.
From here onward, Leinster never gave the rivals a chance to bounce back into the match and kept them under-pressure until the end. Leinster expanded its lead to 31-6 at the end of first half and laid a strong foundation for an impressive victory.
The match resumed in sluggish manner after the break as nothing happened in the first 30 minutes of the second half. Almost everything was happening in the midfield as both sides were keen to keep the other side away from their scoring lines. The long silence
was broken into the 73rd minute as the reserve player of Glasgow, Henry Pyrgos, scored a fine try. However, it was too late for them as Leinster proved too strong for Glasgow with 38-13. Meanwhile, defeat has pushed Glasgow on third at point’s tables.
They are now required to win their next match of the event to qualify for next stages.
