Leinster scores fastest try bonus point in Magners League 2010-11
Leinster defeated Ulster and scored the fastest Try Bonus Point in Magners League 2010/11 to regain their second spot in the Magners League.
Heineken Cup semi-finalists are two points ahead of the third placed Ulster with 59 points after playing 20 matches. Leinster defeated the Ulster with 5 tries to two with four of Leinster tries coming during the first half. The match was played at Royal
Dublin Society, Dublin during Saturday April 16, 2011.
Ulster with no points in the game has now to work hard in their next games to keep their play offs hopes alive. This becomes particularly important, as the point’s difference between the teams in the middle of the table is little.
Both teams started the match in attacking mode and it was Leinster to score first in the game as their Hooker Richardt Strauss scored a try during the 2ndminute of the game.
For Ulster, their Fly Half Ian Humphreys scored on the penalty in the 5th minute to reduce the lead to just three points. Leinster again extended their lead in the following minute. Leinster Winger Luke Fitzgerald scored the second try of the
game during the 8th minute to take the score to 10-3.
Two minutes later, their second Winger Shane Horgan scored his first penalty of the game followed by the Leinster’s Fly Half first conversion of the game to take the scorecard to 17-3. Ulster reduced the lead by their 21st and 28th minutes
try by Ian Humphreys.
Leinster again extended their lead courtesy of their Fly Half Jonathan Sexton’s penalty during the 33rd minute of the game. Leinster secured their first point of the game as their Prop Heinke Van der Merwe scored their 4th try during
the 36th minute of the game.
This was followed by Sexton’s second successful conversion of the game to take the score to 27-9. Ulster’s Scrum Half scored on the first half’s last minute penalty to leave Ulster trailing by 15 points.
Leinster continued with their first half momentum in the second half as they scored their 5th try of the game during the 44th minute.
Sexton followed by his conversion. Leinster failed to score any point during the rest of the second half however, they made Ulster work hard to reduce the lead. Ulster in the remaining time scored two tries. Ulster’s Wannenburg scored their first try during
the 53rd minute followed by Pienaar’s conversion. Ulster’s second try of the match came during the 75th minute through their Winger Craig Gilroy followed by Pienaar’s conversion to leave the scorecard reading 34-26 in favour of Leinster.
Ulster would like to win their remaining two games against the Connacht and Dragon to book their place in the Magners League play offs.
