  2. As in much of the former GDR, ethnic minorities are few and far between. In Germany as a whole, over 90% are ethnic German (VERY homogenous in this day and age): the ethnic make-up of the country is German (91.5%), Turkish (2.4%), Italian (0.7%), Greek (0.4%), Polish (0.4%), and other (4.6%).

    The turks and East Europeans often live in ghetto-like clumps in the least expensive parts of the bigger cities. The link below discusses Leipzig's districts, in general avoid the East part of town esp. Volksmarsdorf.
