  1. Is it true that you can use lemon juice to lighten your hair? Will lemon juice dye my hair blonde?

Alot of people want to go blonde but they are reluctant to use harsh chemicals, pay pricey professional colorist fees or try to figure out the right colors to buy at the pharmacy.

There is an old wives tale that putting lemon juice in your hair and spending a few hours out in the sun will cause your hair to lighten.

Sun exposure will lighten your hair, although very slowly. The acid in lemon juice can help it happen faster. It won't turn dark hair blonde, but it will lighten your hair slightly.

Put some lemon juice on your hair where you want it lighter and go out in the sun. If you have dark brown hair, it probably won't turn blonde but will give you red/auburn highlights. It seems to work best on people who have dirty blonde or light brown hair.

Use it on dirty hair, rather than freshly washed hair. That way the oils in your hair will protect it from the drying effects of lemon juice.

Squeeze the juice out of a few lemons, mix it with a third amount of water and put it in one of those cheap plastic spray bottles. Spray it all over your hair before going outside for all over lightening.

Do I have to go out in the sun or will a hairdryer work instead?

It will not work without the sun and the UV light. A hairdryer is not a substitute for sun. It is not the heat that bleaches your hair, it is the UV light.

How long will the lemon bleach last?

Just like real bleach, once the hair has been bleached with sunlight and lemon juice it will remain lighter. The roots of your hair will grow out darker, but the lightened hair will remain lighter.

Every day for 5 days I applied 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice to my hair and sat in the sun for a couple of hours. Each day I would part my hair differently so the underneath layers of my hair would also get lighter. Afterwards, you must wash your hair with a good conditioner because the lemon juice makes your hair extremely dry and stiff. I had dirty blonde hair and now it is much brighter.

  2. if you just got them go back to the salon and just let them know you like them but wanted them slightly blonder they should be able to fix it easily...they might not charge you. tell them you are really happy you found the place you just want a minor adjustment.

lemon juice works...also dries out hair tremendously esp. if you already put bleach on it.

  3. it does dry your hair out, i suggest to use 'sun-in' you can get it from boots and super drug stores, it has lemon juice in it but it conditions your hair while it lightens. You can also get it in different strength's depending on how much lighter you want your hair.

  4. It would if you sit out in the sun, just becareful as it dries your hair out so so much

  5. I know if you layout in the sun it will eventually lighten your hair.
