Question:

Lemon trees?

I have planted 3 seeds from a lemon fruit from the store. All 3 have come up. Wanted to know what type of lemon it is and if it gets really tall or if it can be pruned back to stay a bit smaller.

Thanks.

  1. This is an interesting experiment but don't expect to get many or good lemons from this.  All citrus is hybrid which means that the seed usually won't produce a plant like the parent.  Also all all commercially grown citrus is grafted onto root stock that is different than the top.  There is no way to know what type of lemon you'll get or if you'll get any lemons at all.  Yes, you can prune it as it grows to keep it small.  Just make sure you don't take more than 1/3 off at any one time.  Also if you live in an area that gets below about 32 deg. in winter, you'll have to keep the tree protected.

    Good luck.
