Does anyone know when the story takes place? Like around what time period?

I believe it wasn't explicitly stated, so it's safe to assume it takes place in a modern day setting.

I think it was based in maybe the 1950's. I really am not sure though. I doubt it was in the 1800's because there is cars. I haven't read it in a while.....sorry.

it has a very 1800's feel, so lots of people believe that it takes place in the 1800's, however there is modern technology and machinery that would suggest the story is current. (also,he makes a reference to George W. Bush at one time)

its such a fictional story, and lots of things happen that never really could happen, that it's also a thought that there really isnt a time period, its just a story that doesnt really have a year its taking place
