Lena Kalla secures Women’s 200m butterfly gold medal - 7th Open Luxembourg Nationals
Lena Kalla of SV Wuerzburg 05 seized the Women’s 200m butterfly final on the final day of the 7th Open Luxembourg Nationals. Kalla won the gold medal of the distant butterfly swim by earning the title of the event in a meet record time of 2 minutes
and 16.47 seconds.
The 17-year-old swimmer levelled the previous mark of 2 minutes and 16.47 seconds, made by Eisel Beatrix of Germany during 2008. The gold medallist was evident for the top position throughout the four-lap swim, as she dominated proceedings throughout the
meet and completed all her laps with the fastest timings.
Kalla was followed by Magali Rousseau of Selection Languedoc Roussillon, who stayed almost two seconds behind her and touched the finishing wall for the silver medal by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 18.08 seconds. The third spot on the podium was
secured by Christine Mailliet of Swimming Club Le Dauphin Ett, who followed them for the bronze medal by clocking a third fastest time of 2 minutes and  25.35 seconds.
Moments later, the 16-year-old Laura Tolmats of Estonian Swimming Federation captured the fourth fastest spot of the event, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 27.89 seconds. The Estonian swimmer was two seconds away from her subsequent competitor, Lavergne
De Cerval C of Selection Languedoc Roussillon, who completed her four-lap swim in the fifth fastest timing of 2 minutes and 29.50 seconds.
The sixth fastest spot of the event was secured by Kim Nickels of Swimming Luxembourg, who stayed almost three seconds behind her preceding swimmer and finished her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 32.65 seconds.
She was followed by her team-members, Mina Sohrabi-Zadeh and Anouk Schmidt, who followed her on the finishing wall as the seventh and eighth fastest swimmers, by clocking in a time of 2:33.69 and 2:42.25 minutes, respectively.
In addition, the winners received their awards after the completion of the session, whereas, the arena applauded for the noteworthy swims of all participants of the 200m event.
