Lena-Sophie Bermel occupies Women’s 800m freestyle gold: Day five – German Olympic Trials
Lena-Sophie Bermel of Swim-Team Elmshorn occupied gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle in the age category of 16 Year Olds and Under on day five of the 2012 German Olympic Trials in Berlin on May 14.
With her smothering efforts, Bermel smothered hopes of her challengers in the sixteen-lap freestyle event and touched the finishing end for gold medal.
She faced no trouble in claiming the title of the event as she made her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 53.37 seconds.
She was followed by Patricia Haupt of SG Berliner Wasserratten, who stayed nearly a half pool length slower and reached the finishing wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 9 minutes and 12.02 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Tina Appelt of SV Halle, who stayed 5.93 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and submitted a time of 9 minutes and 17.95 seconds for third position.
Following that, Michelle Klomfab of VFL Gladbeck 1921, who stayed 3.45 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 21.40 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best spot of the discipline was secured by Franziska Weidner of SSV Nurnberg, who was 1.13 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 22.53 seconds.
Weidner was trailed by Nicole Luff of SG Schwabmunchen-Nordlingen 06, who suffered a loss of 0.11 seconds and surfaced on the finishing blockade with the timing of 9 minutes and 22.64 seconds for sixth position.
Similarly, Vanessa Gimmer of Mainzer SV 01 proved her eligibility for seventh position of the discipline as she stayed nearly 1.50 seconds behind and clocked a time of 9 minutes and 24.18 seconds.
Eighth position of the 800m discipline was secured by Sina Schunk of Swim-Team Elmshorn, who made her way to the finishing wall by submitting a time of 9 minutes and 25.61 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category whereas the position holders were awarded accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
