Assistant coach of West Indies ‘A’ team, Stuart Williams, believes that the top-order batsman, Lendl Simmons, has a great chance of proving his form and fitness to the selectors by performing in the upcoming series against India ‘A’.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 ‘A’ has landed in the Caribbean and the two teams will play three unofficial Test matches, which will be followed by two T20s and three 50-over fixtures.
The right-handed batsman emerged at the international stage in 2006 but established himself as a world-class operator last year, as he impressed one and all with his ability to hit the ball hard.
The 27-year-old cricketer from Trinidad & Tobago injured his finger in a club match earlier this year and since then he has been out of the West Indian team. Simmons is now fit once again and will represent West Indies ‘A’ in the series, which is going to
start tomorrow at Bridgetown.
Williams, who himself was an opening batsman in his playing days, expressed that Simmons is a quality player and has a great future ahead of him. The former Test cricketer believes that right-handed batsman should take this series as a chance to return to
international sport.
"Simmons will want to use this series to prove his fitness and readiness to return. He was excellent for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in limited-overs cricket last year and he will want to get back in the groove and re-start his international career," Williams said.
Apart from Simmons, some of the other discarded players are also looking at this series to regain the confidence of the selectors. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kraigg-Brathwaite-c71708 as the future of Caribbean cricket.
He added, "The 'A' team serves several purposes, and sometimes players lose form, and this series will be a chance for players like Bishoo and Brathwaite to regain their form and look to get back into the senior side. They are both young, talented players
and they have a lot to offer West Indies cricket."
West Indies’ senior team is currently in England and a lot of young players of the ‘A’ team are looking to catch the eyes of the selectors for the upcoming limited-over series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
