Lendl Simmons positive about his future in West Indies cricket
Out-of-favour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 all-rounder Lendl Simmons is positive about his future in West Indies cricket after a fruitful meeting with the chairman of West Indies Cricket Board selection committee, Clyde Butts.
According to him, the WICB chief selector has assured him of a place in the national set up once again.
“I met with chairman Butts and I must say it was a very good meeting indeed,” said Simmons while talking to the media reporters. “We spoke a lot and about varying issues and we both shared our side of the situation. At the end of it I was given the assurance
that there is a place in West Indies cricket for me and this has left me feeling good,” added the Trinidad and Tobago right-hander.
Simmons has not been picked for a West Indies squad since his return from a one-day tour Down Under in February 2010. Both the WICB selectors and the player have been at loggerheads since then.
He was also overlooked for the 2010 World Twenty20 despite being most the impressive performer in the 2009 championship in England where he compiled 150 runs at an average of 30.00 and claimed six wickets as well.
But the situation seems set to change following all-rounder’s meeting with the WICB chief selector which was also attended by the captain of Trinidad and Tobago, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daren-Ganga-c52410.
The dashing Caribbean batsman, who has played 3 Tests and 19 One Day Internationals since debuting in December 2006, said his focus at the moment is to improve his form as this is the only way to get selector’s nod again.
“At this point in time I just want to concentrate on making runs and developing my game, in order to be given a chance to play at the highest level again,” he said.
The right-arm medium-pacer further added that his recent experience has told him that all that matters is one’s performance on the ground and nothing else.
Simmons, who will turn 26 soon, vowed his dedication to West Indian cricket and said, “I want to let everybody know that I am committed to West Indies cricket and committed to getting us back on top and I will be giving it my all to get back in there, so
I can make a change.”
