I was looking to buy a set of steel irons, Nike Slingshot OSS, however they are a half of an inch bigger than normal size of steel, with the 5-iron at 38.5". Is this okay? Will it affect my game at all?

  1. Being properly fitted for length is based primarily on your wrist to ground measurement. I am six foot tall, but my arms are short for my height - so I play 1 inch over standard ( by the way, not every manufacturer uses the same length standards ) my 3 iron is 40 inches

  2. the start is floor to wrist to for measurement .the irons can be a little longer if if you have the strength  to swing the longer club .problem is after little too long if you do not hit the sweet spot every time you lose distance . after you have your clubs you should go to someone and had to check the loft and checked lie,to make sure they fit your swing path .so when the club makes contact with the ball your club is parallel to the ground .

  3. The only one that can answer this question is you....you just have to hit them to see if they will work for you.

  4. depends how tall you are.  longer clubs will make you stand further therefore raising the toe of the club upward.. making a snap pull more likely if you are too short for the iron.  best thing is to go into a golf shop and get measured to see what is best for you.  if the irons are too long you may need to flatten the clubs a bit to compensate.  i say that because i assume you have already bought the irons.  if not then you should get all your measurements before purchasing

  5. Longer irons than standard are for people with above average height.   So it depends on how tall you are.

Also, longer irons means they are a bit heavier than standard.
