Lengthy Talks take Place between League, Players Association -NHL Lockout Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association underwent a lengthy meeting on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, in order to keep the talks on a new collective bargaining agreement going and save what remains of the 2012-2013 NHL regular season.
"Collective bargaining negotiations between the National Hockey League and representatives of the National Hockey League's Players' Association recessed tonight at 10:15 pm.," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "With meetings scheduled to resume Wednesday,
the League will not characterize the substance or detail of the discussions until their conclusion."
It lasted a whopping seven hours of which the details have not been released in full, but the two sides are said to have made a lot of gains and strides in keeping their work progressing and not slowing down. Sources have also termed there to be another
meeting this Thursday.
Both sides had undergone secretly in an undisclosed location over the previous weekend as it seems like they are now realising the weight of the situation and cannot let any moment pass without the puck dropping now in order to save themselves of further
loss.
It is the first time both sides seem serious since they last met in mid October over the month as they offered various propositions from the labour union but all were denied by the league after their milestone 50-50 offer. The previous CBA came officially
to an end on September 15, 2012, and rushed many players out of North America to continue playing around Europe and many parts of the world.
Some players still have faith that things will work out for the best while others have lost all hope and do not plan on coming back anytime soon unless the puck actually does drop and the league calls off the unforgiving lockout. The preseason has already
been cancelled along with a major chunk of the regular season. The latest casualty of the lockout was the annual Winter Classic event, which has depressed millions of fans worldwide, especially those of the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs, as those
two teams were scheduled to play in the historic matchup.
