Leniency for Amir but not for Salman or Asif, believes Lt. Gen (R) Tauqir Zia – Cricket News Update
Lt. Gen (R) Tauqir Zia, the ex-chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), feels no sympathy for the banned cricketers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 should be given another chance to revive his career.
During Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010, a British tabloid, the News of the World, conducted a sting operation and claimed that the Pakistani fast bowlers were involved in bowling deliberate no-balls during the last Test of the series at the Lord’s.
Consequently, the trio was banned by the International Cricket Council for a lengthy period of time and was later jailed by the British courts.
All three of them are now back home after serving their respective sentences. Butt and Asif still claim to be innocent, while the young left-arm fast bowler has admitted that he committed the crime under the influence of his skipper.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Zia said that the corrupt players must be dealt with iron hands by the board and should not be allowed to play for the country in future.
The ex-chairman however, has a soft-corner for Amir because of his young age and feels that the left-arm fast bowler should be forgiven by the cricketing fraternity.
“I believe that anyone involved in any such corruption should not be allowed back into http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket. As far as Mohammed Amir is concerned, he shouldn't be allowed back either. However, there is one aspect that could allow for some leniency in this whole
situation and that is Amir’s age,” he said.
Amir, who was seen as one of the greatest young talents in the world, is currently serving a five-year ban and will have to wait for another three years, before he can play competitive cricket once again.
Zia added, “Maybe he should be allowed back, once he has served his ban completely. He can start off with domestic cricket and then make his way back to the International team. As for Mohammed Asif and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418, I don't think they should ever come back
to Pakistan cricket.”
