Lenka Jurikova gets rid of
Richel Hogenkamp in quarterfinal – Slovak Open 2011
Unseeded seeded Lenka Jurikova smashed Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp in the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open.
Friday the 18th of November, 2011 saw the start of the quarterfinal of the Slovak Open 2011 and unseeded Jurikova was meeting the Dutch qualifier for the second time. The match was a close tie between both the players
however; Jurikova won the match by surviving a seesaw match against her rival to score a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 against her rival on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Jurikova won the toss and both the players were able to hold their respective serves at the end of the second game. In the following four games the players broke each other one after the other and the score had tied at three games
each at the end of the sixth game.
The players kept matching a blow for a blow as they once more held their respective serve in the following two games. They once more traded in breaks to level the score at five games each by the end of the tenth game. However,
it was in the eleventh game that Jurikova held her serve and then broke her adversary for the last time to clog the opening set.
The second set saw Jurikova reel two successive games as she capitalized on a breakpoint in the second game. She then repeated the feat with a hold of serve and by capitalizing on a second break to further increase her lead to
four games to love.
It was extremely unfortunate for Jurikova as she was unable to close out the game. However, Hogenkamp made a marvellous return by scooping straight six games with a series of breaks and holds and she not only had tied the score
at four games each at the end of the eighth game but also bagged the second set at the end of the tenth game.
At the end of the second set both the players had bagged a set apiece and opening the third round of the match was again Jurikova and this time she had to battle a few deuces to ward off her opponent to hold her serve. Following
behind was Hogenkamp and she too bagged her service game.
During the fifth and the sixth games the players traded in breaks and the score had tied at three games each by the end of the sixth game. The score tied for the last time at four games each at the end of the eighth game. As Jurikova
held her serve and then broke her adversary for the last time, she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
Next up for her is top seeded Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko in the semi final of the event.
