Lenka Jurikova sweeps away 4th seed Sandra Zahlavova
in 2nd round – Slovak Open 2011
Fourth seeded Czech Sandra Zahlavova lost to unseeded Czech Dutch qualifier Lenka Jurikova in the second round of the Slovak Open 2011.
The two players had come to blows against each other on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. It took the unseeded Slovak simply fifty three minutes to get rid of the fourth seeded Czech in
straight sets of 6-1, 6-0.
Both the sets were dominated by Jurikova and even though, she hit forty nine percent of her first serves on target, she accomplished an ostentatious eighty seven percent of her first serve points. Moreover, she had a strong defence
and saved a hundred percent of her breakpoints along with capitalizing on a sixty three percent of her breakpoints won.
In addition she also had a strong return that allowed her to accomplish a walloping sixty three percent of her total return points in the match and with almost twice as many points as her adversary’s she clogged the match.
The first set of the match was initiated by Jurikova and she had to battle a few deuces in order to hold off her adversary with a hold of serve. She then capitalized on a break in the second game and with another hold of serve
in the third game, she took the lead with three games to love.
In the following two games the players held their respective serves and the score had shifted to 4-1 at the end of the fifth game with Jurikokva leading the set. Zahlavova’s backhand went wayward and she gifted away a pivotal game
to her opponent. Mean while, the Slovakian was able to reel two games and was only a game away from winning the opening set. She then held her serve for the last time in the seventh game to clog the opening set with a breadstick victory.
The second set of the match was started by Zahlavova and this time she didn’t even try, she threw in the towel after a few early games. Nonetheless, she was unable to hold her and double faulted on her second serve in the first
game.
Mean while, Jurikova not only bagged the second game but also benefitted from another breakpoint in the third game. From there onwards, she took a notch higher and not only bagged all her service games but also all her opponent’s
service game resulting in a bagel set victory.
Lenka Jurikova was able to save a spot in the quarterfinal of the tournament where she will be facing the Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp.
