Lennart Stekelenburg claims Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day four – 2012 Netherlands Championships
Lennart Stekelenburg of E ON-NZA claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on last day of the 2012 Netherlands Swimming Championships in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 10.
Stekelenburg met expectations of his supporters by dominating the playoff of double lap breaststroke discipline. He demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the 100m event and made his way to the medal rostrum for gold medal.
He continued his alarming pace throughout the event and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by producing a wonderful time of 1 minute and 01.96 seconds.
The champion was followed by Stefan Hazeleger of RTC Drachten, who stayed nearly one and a half body length behind and cruised his way towards the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.27 seconds.
Third spot of the event was secured by Bram Dekker of EIFFELswimmersPSV, who stayed just 0.09 seconds away from improving his position but settled on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 03.36 seconds.
Similarly, Dekker remained 0.19 seconds away from Timon Evenhuis of TriVia, who hit the finishing for fourth best position end with the timing of 1 minute and 03.55 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Jordan Kraaijenhof of AZ&PC, who remained 1.60 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing wall by producing a time of 1 minute and 05.16 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Rutger Sloof of DWK, who stayed 0.66 seconds behind and reached the finishing end for sixth position with the timing of 1 minute and 05.82 seconds.
Seventh best spot of the race was obtained by Roy Smeenge of E ON-NZA, who was 0.26 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 06.08 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was secured by Simas Jarasunas of Vilnius water sports school, who was 0.52 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 06.60 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received a huge round of applause from the audience at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
