Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and winger Aaron Lennon was delighted by Saturday’s 1-2 win over Sunderland and has praised his teammates’ belief and spirit to turn the game around.
Tottenham had been trailing by a goal in the first half when Sunderland captain and defender John O’Shea gave the hosts the lead after some dreadful defending by the visitors during a set piece.
Spurs had failed to clear the corner, and John O’Shea pounced on the loose ball which gave Sunderland the lead. The first half ended with the hosts a goal to the good, and Tottenham had to find their way back into the game.
Despite dominating for long periods of the first half, Tottenham found themselves on the back foot. However, a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Cuellar own goal in the second half levelled the scores and shell-shocked the Sunderland players.
From there on, it was all Tottenham as they started pressing for the winner. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 scored the goal which sealed all 3 points for manager Andre Villas-Boas. After picking up the ball from about 25 yards out, the winger darted in the box leaving O’Shea
for dead and tucked in a neat finish past Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Lennon’s pace proved to be too much for the Sunderland defenders as they helplessly looked on whole Tottenham celebrated the winner. If it hadn’t been for Mignolet, Tottenham would have gotten more goals, but the visitors would not be concerned as they rounded
up a well deserved win, which takes them up to 4th spot on the league table.
After the game, Lennon praised his teammates and said:
“We started well. We went a goal down but we were on top of the game, it was against the run of play. We showed our character and it was a strong 90 minutes for us. The manager told us at half time to keep going, we were on top and we felt that if we could
come out strongly in the second half, we’d win the game.”
In other news, Tottenham player Sandro believes that they can win the league. The Brazilian said:
"This is a fast, dangerous team built to attack and we are not content to just be a top-four side. No-one is talking about Spurs as champions but then, bang, we will win it and they will be talking about Tottenham then."
