Lennox Lewis believes he would have beaten David Haye in two rounds – Boxing News
Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis claims he would have beaten former world heavyweight champion David Haye in just two rounds. Although the pair has never met in the ring, Lewis is confident that Haye would not have been able to survive more the second
round against him.
Lewis, who has been showing his reservations towards the current boxing heavyweight scenario, believes there are not many A-list fighters left in the division.
In an interview with Daily Mail, Lewis said, “Wladimir and Vitali [Klitschko] are the only A-class heavyweights. The best of the rest are B-class. We don't know which of those can make the leap. David Haye was so disappointing against Wladimir, which was
sad.”
He added, “I beat Vitali in a great fight when we were both in our prime. To be honest, David might have lasted a couple of rounds with me if he was lucky. Heavyweight championship boxing is now a game for giants.”
Lennox Lewis is a three-time world heavyweight champion. During his tenure, he defeated some top-notch fighters of his time such as Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Vitali Klitschko.
Lewis believes Haye would not have been in the division during his tenure, since the competition then was tougher.
David Haye recently defeated Dereck Chisora in a fight that was held on July 14 at the Upton Park in London. Haye, who made his comeback after short retirement, knocked out Chisora in the fifth round. The victory stamped Haye as one of the best in the division,
and washed away the humiliation he suffered following his defeat to Wladimir Klitschko last year.
As of now, David Haye is eager to fight Wladimir’s older brother Vitali Klitschko. However, the Ukrainian WBC world heavyweight champion is scheduled to fight Manuel Charr in September, and the fight might be the last of his career. Vitali will be going
for a political campaign after his fight against Charr.
According to Vitali’s manager, the Ukrainian’s boxing career is dependent upon his political career. If Vitali is elected by his nation, he might not return to boxing. However, he did give a hint towards a possible bout between Haye and Vitali.
