Lennox Lewis: Heavyweight division is collapsing, I cannot make a comeback – Boxing news
Lennox Lewis is genuinely unhappy with the current deteriorating scenario of heavyweight boxing, so much so that he has been lashing out on most current fighters and promoters recently.
He recently did so while attending a ceremony in London as an ambassador for Laureus Sporting Academy.
Lennox Lewis, the brawler who is considered as one of the best in the world and the most recent undisputed world heavyweight champion, belongs to the era of boxing that witnessed the surge and downfall of prolific champion cadre men such as Mike Tyson, Hasim
Rahman, Evander Holyfield and others.
Lewis in his time ruled the heavyweight division authoritatively so much so that he, in his entire career, lost just two bouts out of a total 44. Nicknamed as ‘the Lion’, Lewis put forth the boxing fanatic’s epic performances and bouts. His name when included
in any bout against any competitor was synonymous to a show of sheer power punching, impressive foot work, and emphatic win.
It is this reason why the 46-year-old veteran is wary about heavyweight division’s future. Lennox while corroborating his claim said that it’s a shame for the heavyweight brawlers and the division itself that they are not generating and bringing forth enough
talent which can take the place of the Ukrainian Klitshcko brothers.
Lewis sarcastically said that the Ukrainian duo though rules the heavyweight yet they themselves don’t know who the best heavyweight among them is. Lennox boastfully revealed that people ask him whether he is returning or not since he is the only available
man on earth against whom the Klitshcko duo can earn much more name, respect, and money.
The 46-year-old said that his answer is ‘NO’ and that he will not make a comeback at all.
Lennox said, “People keep asking me if I'm coming back because there's only one fight out there the Klitschkos can sell. But unfortunately for them, it's against a 46-year-old who retired eight years ago and the answer is no, I'm not making a comeback.”
Lewis almost scornfully said, “Where are all the big guys? There are none - we are waiting for the next volcano to erupt, and I'm bored of waiting. It makes me sad when the biggest match-up out there is Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, a pair of lightweights.”
