Lennox Lewis reckons Vitali Klitschko is a better fighter than Wladimir Klitschko – Boxing news
The former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world Lennox Lewis reckons the current WBC world heavyweight champion Vital Klitschko is a better fighter than his younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, who is the current IBF, IBO, WBO, WBA and Ring Magazine’s
heavyweight champion of the world.
The Lion, Lewis, who along with Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield is the only boxer in history to have won the heavyweight title three times, commented on Wladimir Klitschko’s unification bout, which was held on July 2, 2011 at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena in
Germany against the Hayemaker, David Haye.
Wladimir secured a unanimous points decision over Haye but still Lewis thinks Wladimir was in a defensive mode.
The 45-year-old British-Canadian pugilist Lewis believes Wladimir has a weak chin and he always protects his chin during the fight. He stated Wladimir did not fight the way he should have fought against Haye, as he thinks he was just avoiding Haye’s ‘Hayemaker’
punch.
However, Lennox admired Dr. Ironfist, Vitali Klitschko, who has won 42 of his 44 fights including 39 by the way of a knockout. He remarked Vitali is a much better fighter than his younger brother as he fully utilises his reach advantage and knows how to
off balance his opponent.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I think that Wladimir believes [his chin is too weak]. That's why he's defensive, he protects his chin. He still has the rainfall of his previous fights in the back of the head. Instead of answering [David] Haye's
punches with his own, or to do any infighting, he would just hold. Vitali's boxing [style makes you] uncomfortable. He is tall and uses his reach well. He throws good combinations and knows how to get his opponent off balance. Vitali is definitely the better
[brother].”
In the end, Lennox claimed he is also a better boxer than Wladimir and had he fought Wladimir during his prime, he would have knocked him out.
He said, “I am a more complete boxer than Wladimir. Wladimir I would have knocked out - probably in the middle rounds.”
